A prototype shown in London in 1987 began the long collaboration between Jasper Morrison and Cappellini. The Thinking Man’s Chair entered the catalogue the following year, exposing its tubular frame and flat supporting bars instead of concealing them beneath upholstery. It captures the house’s role as an editor of independent design ideas: a piece can be unfamiliar while remaining closely concerned with use.
