ROLL Recovery: origin & history.
In Boulder, engineer Jeremy Nelson began experimenting with prototypes around the training routine of his wife, professional runner Adriana Nelson. The brand’s account follows those early trials in 2011 and the development of a tool that could be used without lying on a large floor roller. R8 emerged as a spring-loaded frame with rollers on either side. Later versions refined its pivots, handles and interchangeable inserts. ROLL Recovery’s identity remains closely tied to that mechanical problem: making a hand-held object that can travel with an athlete.

R8 · Alpine White →
R8 Alpine White places two textured roller inserts inside a hinged, spring-loaded frame. The reinforced Zytel thermoplastic body combines stainless-steel hardware, ball bearings and soft-touch handles; the standard inserts are soft TPU. The frame is approximately 31.75 × 24.13 × 6.35 cm and weighs about 1.4 kg. It is operated by hand for controlled self-massage around a movement routine. Start with light pressure and follow the official demonstrations. Interchangeable inserts alter the feel and are sold separately. This is the standard R8, with its own spring configuration.

R4 Body Roller — Boulder Black →
ROLL Recovery’s R4 is a floor roller with a pronounced central groove and a diamond-textured surface. Its two broad ends taper towards the middle, giving the object a different profile from a plain foam cylinder. High-density EVA foam surrounds an ABS core, which supports the shape under load. The Boulder Black version measures 45.7 × 15.2 cm and weighs 1.17 kg. It is a substantial piece of self-massage equipment to keep beside a training mat.
A closer look.
What catches our eye.
R8 is an unusually mechanical approach to a movement accessory. Its springs and rollers make pressure part of the construction; begin gently and use the maker’s exercise guidance.
