Smith Teamaker: origin & history.
Steven Smith had already helped build Stash and Tazo before taking a family break in Avignon. He returned to Portland with another idea: a smaller tea house built around distinctive blends and the pleasure of making a cup. Smith Teamaker began in 2009 in a former blacksmith’s shop in Northwest Portland. Its numbered recipes give each blend a clear identity, while tasting rooms make the collection something to experience in person. Lord Bergamot shows that approach through a familiar Earl Grey structure, with Assam, Sri Lankan teas and the citrus scent of bergamot.

Lord Bergamot · 15 Sachets →
Lord Bergamot No. 55 combines Indian Assam and Sri Lankan Ceylon full-leaf black teas with Italian bergamot oil and natural flavour. The result is an Earl Grey with a substantial black-tea base and a clear citrus aroma. This carton contains 15 sachets, distinct from the loose-leaf bags and larger pantry packs. For preparation, Smith recommends boiling water and a five-minute infusion. Enjoy it plain or choose your own addition after tasting the tea itself. It contains caffeine. The individual sachets make it easy to keep the same blend at a desk, in a travel bag or beside the kettle.

No. 45 Peppermint Leaves — 15 Sachets →
Smith Teamaker’s No. 45 Peppermint Leaves uses a single ingredient from the Pacific Northwest. The leaves are screened by hand for size before being packed into fifteen sachets. Their infusion has an intense mint finish and a rounded character that the maker likens to cream and chocolate; those are tasting notes, not added ingredients. This caffeine-free herbal drink is prepared with freshly boiled water and a five-minute steep. The orange carton keeps the format easy to recognise on the kitchen shelf.

What catches our eye.
The interest lies in the assembly rather than an unfamiliar format. A numbered blend invites you to follow a particular flavour profile across loose leaves and sachets, choosing the preparation that fits your day.
