Designer and maker Mikko Kärkkäinen approaches lighting through wood as well as electronics. At Tunto, thin structures carry integrated light while keeping the material visible, particularly along an edge or inside a curve. The Finnish studio develops both domestic lamps and larger architectural projects, so a simple desk object and a ceiling installation can share an interest in line and light. Its numbered lamp designs have different proportions and functions. Choosing one calls for attention to its exact controls and construction rather than assuming every model has the same technical features.
