Bala: origin & history.

A row of rounded bars, an elastic band, a colour that belongs as easily in a living room as in a studio: Bala began by reconsidering the wrist and ankle weight. Natalie Holloway and Maximilian Kislevitz describe sketching the idea on a napkin in 2017, then packing early orders themselves in a garage. The Los Angeles brand has since developed mats, bars and other movement accessories around the same meeting of shape and use. The Bangles remain its most recognisable expression. Steel gives them their weight; silicone softens their outline; repeated segments make the band read almost like a bracelet. The palette extends beyond conventional gym black. It is a coherent design language for equipment that can stay visible between sessions, without making appearance a promise of fitness results.

Bala Bangles — Charcoal, 1 LB pair →

The Bala Bangles wrap a series of silicone-covered steel weights around the wrist or ankle. In this Charcoal set, each band weighs 1 lb, approximately 454 g: the pair totals 2 lb, rather than 1 lb shared between two bands. The repeated rounded bars give the weights their bracelet-like profile, while elastic and a hook-and-loop closure adjust the fit. Bala lists a band fit of 5.5–11 inches, approximately 14–28 cm, and supplies a matching carrying case. The 1 lb version is the slimmest in the range; moving the bars changes their position, not the stated weight. Centre them before fastening and keep the band snug without overtightening. Start with short, controlled sessions and stop if movement causes discomfort. Wipe with water or mild detergent, then air dry; do not immerse or machine wash.
