The result is a lightly toasted infusion with a sweet aroma, distinct from the brand’s fine hojicha powder. This 80 g resealable bag contains only Japanese green tea. For a first brew, use 8 g of leaves with 240 ml of water at 80°C for 30 seconds, then explore further infusions as the flavour changes. It is a loose-leaf tea to steep and strain, rather than a powder to whisk into milk.

Hojicha Powder (Original) is finely milled roasted green tea from Kyoto, sold here in the 100 g resealable bag. Its only ingredient is Japanese green tea, Camellia sinensis. The roasting gives the powder its brown colour and the cocoa-like, earthy notes described by the maker; cocoa is not an added ingredient. It is intended for lattes, ice cream, baking and other tea-based recipes. The maker's serving guide is one teaspoon, about 1.5 g, for 240 ml of liquid. Whisk it into the chosen recipe and close the pouch after use. Roasted green tea should not be treated as a caffeine-free herbal infusion.
