Arne Jacobsen’s Series 7 chair, designed in 1955, is a useful introduction to Fritz Hansen. Nine layers of pressure-moulded veneer create a continuous seat and back with a narrow waist and broad shoulders. The method gives a thin shell its shape, while different finishes allow the same outline to move between public and domestic settings.
