Get to know Iittala.
Iittala brings glass, tableware and decorative objects into a shared Finnish design vocabulary. The Alvar Aalto collection gives that approach a particularly recognisable form: an irregular outline that connects a useful vessel with sculpture. Its production at the Iittala Glass Factory combines mouth blowing, hand cutting and repeated polishing.
Official history
Iittala began as a glass factory in Finland in 1881. Alvar Aalto’s vase design dates to 1936 and was shown at the Paris World’s Fair in 1937. These are separate milestones: the age of the factory should not be confused with the date of the design.

What catches our eye.
The clear Aalto vase gives flowers room to spread rather than forcing a single vertical arrangement. Its changing silhouette also holds interest on an empty table.
