The Bacchantes vase began as a René Lalique design in 1927. Its procession of figures makes the surface a continuous relief rather than a simple boundary around flowers. The contrast between satin and clear crystal remains a useful way to understand the house: ornament is formed in the material itself, and changes as light crosses it.
