Secrid grew out of the design work of René van Geer and Marianne van Sasse van Ysselt. Their first minimal wallet, the Secrid Bodycard, appeared in 1995, while they were running their design studio. After the financial crisis of 2008, the pair focused on developing their own consumer brand. The aluminium Cardprotector followed in 2009, establishing the mechanism around which the wallet collection would take shape. Leather exteriors then added space for notes and extra cards without hiding the small lever at the base. The result sits between an accessory and a piece of industrial design: measured proportions, a repeated daily gesture and variations in surface rather than a changing silhouette. Today, the collection spans bare card cases and wrapped wallets, with different leathers, colours and capacities. In its current company history, Secrid describes itself as wholly owned by the Van Geer family.
